More information about excisions

Excisions in dermatology refer to the surgical removal of a skin lesion, tumor, or tissue. During an excision, a lesion is either partially or fully removed from the skin. Surgical removal of tissue is often necessary for both medical and aesthetic reasons.

At Skincredible Dermatology, many patients chose to have lesions such as skin tags and lesions removed. Removal of skin tissue is also sometimes necessary when the skin is infected or is caused by a viral infection, such as the case with plantar warts.

Excisions are used to remove:

  • Abnormal Growths
  • Tumors
  • Moles
  • Lesions

Skin excisions are also used to treat specific types of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The excision procedure removes the cancerous skin cells and surrounding cells to help the body’s immune system fight the disease.

Before any surgery is performed, the provider will review all medical history and discuss all treatment options with you. Excisions use a scalpel, a laser, or other instruments to remove skin tissue from the body. These are performed in-office under the safety of local anesthesia.
